Welcome Activites Volunteers Governance Local Information

Press Release for the 14th February 2023:

The Market Bosworth Community Library, Market Bosworth, Leicestershire has just been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

Market Bosworth Community Library opened in August 2016 as one of the many Leicestershire County Council libraries that became a volunteer led community library to avoid its closure. The library, staffed totally by volunteers, opens for a session six days a week, offers all library services, is a Safe Space, a Warm Space, home to several local groups and is a venue for community gatherings.

Market Bosworth Community Library is one of 262 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. Their work, along with others from across the UK, reminds us of all the ways fantastic volunteers are contributing to their local communities and working to make life better for those around them.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to benefit their communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and, following his accession, His Majesty The King emphasised his desire to continue the Award. Recipients are announced annually on the 14th November, which is The King’s Birthday.

Representatives of Market Bosworth Community Library will receive the award crystal and certificate signed by The King from Michael Kapur OBE, the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire later this year. In addition, two volunteers from Market Bosworth Community Library will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May or June 2024, along with other recipients of this year’s Award.

The Trustees of the charity are delighted that the hard work and commitment of past and present volunteers has been acknowledged by this award. Whilst the most visible of our volunteers are those who operate the library for each of our sessions we have a wide range of supporting roles that sustain our activities. New volunteers are always welcome.
